Born and raised in Wakefield, Massachusetts, just north of Boston, Steve started playing frat parties and bar gigs in 1964 while majoring in physics at UMass Amherst. His band, Steve and the Esquires, eventually landed a six month stint at the New York Playboy Club. After adding more members, and changing it's name to Bold, the band signed a recording contract with ABC Records, put out a nationally-released album, and opened concerts for Taj Mahal, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.
After the break-up of Bold, Steve migrated first to Los Angeles, then to Laguna Beach, where he helped form the popular band, Amazing Grace, performing in Southern California and Lake Tahoe. He finally moved to Lake Tahoe, where he formed the Steve Walker Band in 1975. After playing most of the local bars and casinos, the band began its current twenty-five year run on the Tahoe Queen, a 500 passenger paddlewheeler cruising Lake Tahoe. Although Steve performs mainly with the band, he sometimes appears as a solo artist. Having recorded his own back-up music, he alternates vocal and guitar performances with the sound of full band accompaniment. Steve loves playing for the people and does many requests and special dedication songs for weddings and anniversaries. He's equally at home playing for dining crowds, easy-listening dance crowds, or rockin' party crowds.
